Boots

Boots Promo Shot

I was 5 years old, living near the orchard.
Took my new big wheel over to the neighbor.
Old man mr. Brinkman sat out on his front porch swinging.
Playing his guitar.  It had one string missing.
He played anyway. He’d say:

Stay young, stay sweet, stay pretty.
When you run off to the city,
remember you’re a country girl at heart.
Don’t get blinded by those fancy lights.
Mama taught you wrong from right.
Daddy taught you how to play guitar.
You can always try a new set of shoes.
A country girl won’t trade her boots.

I was twenty-one when I ran off to the city.
Everyone had on high-heels and ‘minis’.
I tried ‘em on a couple times. I always felt a little compromised.  I knew deep inside…

30 years gone by and I don’t know why I’d ever think to trade my old Boulets.
Even if I tried, I’ve come to realize, a country girl don’t change her ways.

So ladies…

Stay young, stay sweet, stay pretty.
When you run off to the city,
remember you’re a country girl at heart.
Don’t get blinded by those fancy lights.
Mama taught you wrong from right.
Daddy taught you how to play guitar.
You can always try a new set of shoes.
You’ll find out you don’t get to choose.
A country girl won’t trade her boots.
